Reconstitution Guide
A seven-step laboratory procedure for reconstituting lyophilised research peptides. Adapt to your own lab protocols and biosafety practice.
Step 01 — Prepare a Clean Workspace
Work on a disinfected surface in a low-traffic area. Have your sealed vial of lyophilised peptide, an unopened ampoule of bacteriostatic water, an alcohol swab, and a fresh sterile syringe at hand. Allow refrigerated vials to reach room temperature before opening, typically 10–15 minutes.
- Alcohol swabs (70% isopropyl)
- Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol)
- 1 mL or 3 mL sterile syringe with 25–27g needle
- Clean lint-free pad
Step 02 — Calculate Your Reconstitution
Use the Peak Labs dosage calculator to choose a bacteriostatic water volume that yields a workable concentration for your protocol. Common choices are 1 mL, 2 mL, or 3 mL, larger volumes give finer dosing resolution; smaller volumes give faster draws.
Step 03 — Draw the Bacteriostatic Water
Swab the rubber stopper of the bacteriostatic-water vial. Draw the calculated volume into the syringe. Tap to dislodge bubbles and expel any air against the inside wall.
Step 04 — Add Water to the Peptide Vial
Swab the peptide vial’s stopper. Insert the needle at a shallow angle and direct the stream of water along the inside wall of the vial, not directly onto the lyophilised powder. This protects the peptide structure and improves solubility.
Step 05 — Dissolve Without Agitation
Withdraw the empty syringe and gently swirl the vial, never shake. Most peptides go into solution within 30–60 seconds, yielding a clear, colourless liquid. A faint cloudiness usually clears with another quiet swirl.
Step 06 — Label and Store
Write the reconstitution date and concentration on the vial label or a piece of tape. Refrigerate at 2–8°C upright; protect from light. Reconstituted peptide is typically stable for 14–30 days depending on compound, consult the product page or summary for storage detail.
Step 07 — Withdraw a Dose
When ready, swab the stopper, insert a fresh sterile syringe needle, invert the vial, and draw your calculated volume. Expel air bubbles and verify the meniscus against the syringe graduation before use in your research protocol.
Good Practice
- Single use only. Never re-enter a vial with a previously used needle.
- Avoid foaming. Vigorous shaking degrades peptide structure, gentle swirling is enough.
- Keep it cold. Reconstituted peptides go straight back into a 2–8°C refrigerator between uses.
- Date everything. A labelled vial is a usable vial.
